Employment Retention Service - Adult Mental Health

Launched in 2016, the Employment Retention Service has helped Individuals who have experienced mental health difficulties who are in work and struggling, or who are off sick and need support to get back to work. The service is integrated into Mental Health Community Teams where clients are able to access specialist employment support as part of their individual recovery.

About the service
The Employment Retention Service provides support and guidance for clients and their employers to return to and/or retain their employment status. The service is able to provide advice and guidance upon adjustments, structuring of return to work plans and staying well plans. Through the integration within clinical teams, information and strategies for clients to recover and maintain their health is available to Employment Retention Workers. Where consent is obtained from clients this can be shared with employers to ensure open and honest dialogue regarding treatment and support.
The service works directly with clients and their employers to understand and break down barriers around returning or sustaining employment leading to current success rates of 90% of clients discharged remaining in employment.
This is just some of the support we offer:
- Individual assessment of employment support needs
- Support with the formation and implementation of a return to work plan, including reasonable adjustments
- On-going in work support
- Support at meetings with employers, including absence review meetings, occupational health assessments, sickness hearings, and welfare meetings
- Helping people to understand and manage their sickness absence and return to work
- Planning and support to enable people to remain well at work
- Signposting to other relevant agencies and organisations
- Support for employers to better understand the mental health of their employee and the implications of this at work
