Trust shortlisted for prestigious preceptorship award
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust's (HWHCT) community multi-professional preceptorship programme has been shortlisted for the Nurse Education Provider of the Year (post-registration) category at the Nursing Times Awards.
This comes after the Trust received the National Preceptorship Nursing Interim Quality Mark from NHS England in 2023 - the gold standard that NHS organisations use to benchmark high-quality preceptorship for newly registered nursing staff.
Preceptorship supports newly registered clinicians to transition from student to practitioner, gaining confidence as they settle into their roles.
The driving force behind the Trust's preceptorship programme and Clinical Practice Development Lead, Tom Challacombe said: "Preceptorship is an important part of a newly registered clinician’s career journey and I'm very proud that our programme is being recognised."
During HWHCT's preceptorship programme, newly registered and internationally educated clinicians benefit from 12 months of support, while participating in study days on topics like patient safety, leadership, and quality improvement.
The Trust has delivered a multi-professional preceptorship programme for many years, which supports nurses, allied health professionals and psychological wellbeing practitioners.
Tom adds: "If we take care of our new starters, they will feel invested in, valued and be even greater advocates for our patients. It's why we have designed a high-quality preceptorship programme to provide a structured period of transition, support, and great opportunities to grow here."
The preceptorship programme primarily focuses on providing transitional support for staff, but it also offers an opportunity to reflect on their career aspirations and identify development opportunities for their future.
The Trust continues to recruit to clinical roles that offer our nationally recognised preceptorship programme by attending local career fairs. Prospective candidates can come along and speak to the team about career opportunities at Herefordshire and Ludlow College in Hereford, on Wednesday 21st February 11am-3pm.
