Local patient clothing bank in need of donations

‘The Wardrobe’ – a popular volunteer-ran clothing bank for mental health patients in Worcester, is in urgent need of summer clothing donations.

Founded in 2021 by Dr Louisa Ward, this initiative provides essential clothing to patients at Elgar Unit in Worcester who are experiencing severe mental health challenges, run by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust.

Many patients are admitted following stressful circumstances and may not have essential clothing for their stay. Factors such as homelessness or financial difficulties can also leave patients without basic clothing.

The Wardrobe provides patients access to clean, comfortable clothing, which can help them during their recovery.

Gaynor Roberts, registered nursing associate and main contact for the Wardrobe said , “Clean clothes can significantly impact on someone’s journey in hospital, supporting their comfort, independence, and sense of dignity. Over the past three years, generous donations have made a real difference. Alongside our wonderful staff and volunteers, we hope to continue supporting our patients with your help.”

“This summer, we particularly need donations of lighter clothing to help our patients stay comfortable in the warmer weather”

The WardrobeThe Wardrobe offers a range of men's and women's sizes, sourced from donations by staff, the public, and companies such as Re-Fashion, ASOS, Selective, Aldi, Bonaker Convalescent Charity, Talk Clothing, and Preloved Kilo, with more organisations continuing to pledge their support.

The Wardrobe is open to patients accessing community mental health services in the area and is currently accepting donations from the public at:

Newtown Hospital, Newtown Road, Worcester, WR5 1JG
