Local Mental Health team wins prestigious Patient Choice Award

Complex Needs Team NHS Staff Awards

A local service supporting people with complex, long-term mental health problems has won a prestigious award after being nominated by one of its patients.

The Patient Choice Award is part is Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust’s annual Staff Awards programme. It is nominated for by patients and this year, was awarded to the Worcestershire Complex Needs Service.

They were nominated Naomi Moorhouse, a patient of the service who described the support they had given her as ‘life changing’.

She said: “The Complex Needs Team have helped me build a life worth living and made it one that I actually see myself living. Being able to work with them has been the best opportunity that I have had in life… they’ve given me back my life, they’ve given me the chance to create a new life and future.”

“Since being discharged, I have realised that over the two years with the Complex Needs Team, I have built myself a very full life outside of mental health services, and it’s full of things that are unapologetically me. I am able to continue on with the work I was doing, which has helped me a lot in my new job. I use my skills to manage and cope with my emotions and everything else life throws my way. When I’m doubting myself too, I remind myself that I know the Complex Needs Team wholeheartedly believes in me and the work we have done, and that’s all I need, because of them I know I can believe in myself too.”

Karen Ingram, Adult Mental Health Clinical Lead for the service, said: “It’s so rewarding to see the impact the Complex Needs Team has on patients and their lives. We are so proud to have been chosen to receive this year’s Patient Choice Award after being nominated alongside so many other amazing services and individuals from the Trust. We hope that we continue to have the same impact on all our patients as we have Naomi.”

The Trust’s annual awards event is held to commemorate the exceptional achievements of the Trust’s 4,500+ staff throughout the year. It includes celebrating the incredible staff who have given 25, 40 or 50 years’ of continuous service to the NHS.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust provides mental health services across both counties. It also runs the Community Hospitals, community nursing, therapy and children’s services in Worcestershire.
