Local nurse ‘braves the shave’ for colleague battling cancer

A local NHS nurse has courageously shaved her head to raise money for her friend and colleague who undergoing treatment for cancer.

Janet Garfield, Nurse at the Primrose Unit in Bromsgrove ‘braved the shave’ to raise money for her colleague Jinsy, whom she worked alongside prior to her diagnosis of Stage 3 Advanced Bowel cancer last year.

Jinsy who works as a Staff Nurse on the Primrose Unit, has dedicated 22 years of her life working as a nurse.

In a time of increased financial pressure, Janet felt she needed to do something to support Jinsy and her family while she undergoes intensive chemotherapy and further surgery.

This led her to launch the ‘Going bald – Jinsy’s Journey’ fundraiser, which culminated in Janet shaving her head in front of a crowd of supportive onlookers on December 23rd.

Janet said, “Today was the day… Thank you to all who were there for your support and a big thank you to Karen for doing the actual deed. The amount raised has been phenomenal, and I am so grateful to everyone who has donated either financially, emotionally or with their time. This wouldn’t be possible for our lovely Jinsy and her family without you. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart”.

Janet added, “It really was a joint effort with all of the team on the Primrose Unit”.

Jinsy said: “'I would like to say a huge thank you for your support throughout my cancer journey, not ended yet - a long way to go.  I am sure you will be there for us all as a family”.

Jennifer Streeter, Acting Clinical and Operational Lead for the Primrose Palliative Care Unit said: "The Primrose team as a whole are so proud of Janet for braving the shave to raise funds for our wonderful colleague Jinsy , though none of us in the team are surprised that Janet has done this as she is a kind and thoughtful person who goes above and beyond for everyone she knows".
