Worcestershire based community nurse wins ‘Rising Star’ Award 2022
Amy Turton, a learning disability (RNLD) nurse from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, won the ‘Ann Shuttleworth Rising Star’ award at the Nursing Times Award ceremony on October 26th.
Held every year since 2019, the awards are one of the biggest community nursing events in Europe, which recognise the best talent in the field. With over 25 categories, the awards cover a range of specialties, from mental health to clinical research.
The ‘Rising Star’ award recognises a nurse working in the NHS or independent sector who has been qualified for less than five years and has demonstrated exceptional qualities in nursing, such as compassionate care and leadership.
Kathryn Hankins, Community Services Manager for Learning Disabilities for the Trust said: “Amy is a dedicated, energetic, and motivated nurse who has worked tenaciously to rise from her original role as a valued Healthcare support worker in our Community Learning Disabilities services, to become a Learning Disability Nurse and now an aspiring Advanced Clinical Practice Nurse.
“We know Amy to be as inspiring and ambitious for her patients, students, and colleagues, as she is for herself. It is wonderful to have been able to share this event with her and watch her be recognised as the fantastic RNLD that she is”.
Amy’s unswerving dedication to her patients and team particularly impressed the judges for the awards, who said that she is “a true advocate for patients” who ensures the voice of the most vulnerable is heard. They added that she is an “inspiration” for the next generation of learning disability nurses.
Amy Turton, Rising Star Award winner said: “What a privilege and honour to have won the Ann Shuttleworth Rising Star Award. I feel so valued, appreciated, and supported by my team and everyone around me. This award shines a light on the learning disability nursing profession and highlights the value of our work.
“We are a highly skilled and dynamic bunch of nurses, and it means everything for me to represent and champion my colleagues. I really hope this award encourages others to share their projects and successes, to get the recognition that the profession so rightly deserves. Here's to inspiring our future nursing workforce!”
