‘Reach Out’ music video launches supporting young people’s mental health

Reach Out - new single out now

A local band from Worcestershire have launched a music video, following the release of a new song about their own experiences with mental health.

Split Second are made up of 15 and 16-year-olds from across the county who have teamed up with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the main provider of mental health services across both counties

The song, Reach Out, encourages young people to talk if they are struggling with their mental health, or know someone who is, and to access to help and support available.

Today a music video accompanying the song has been released and follows a series of busking events in Herefordshire and Worcestershire over the summer, where the band performed their new single.

Levi Husbands, who wrote Reach Out and is a guitarist in Split Second said: “Lockdown had a big impact on my own mental health which led me to the NHS and the writing of this song.

“We hope anyone who hears the track or watches the video is encouraged to ‘Reach Out’. You are not on your own and there are people and organisations out there who can help.”

The music video is part of a wider campaign which will include school resources and community art displays across the two counties, all aimed at promoting the song and wider support options available for local young people. The campaign is being led by the Health and Care Trust’s Youth Board, a group of young people who help the Trust improve NHS services.

The song and video are available to watch now at www.camhs.hacw.nhs.uk/reachout-music. The website also has lots more information to support a child, young person or parent/carer.
